16.4 km1065 mDiffArnica Lake - Twin LakesCastle JunctionStarting from the Vista Lake viewpoint on highway 93 Radium, this hike first drops 125m to Vista Lake before climbing to Arnica Lake. From there another climb to a saddle before we descend to Upper and Lower Twin Lakes. Don't let the elevation put you off - it's actually only 715m on the way in, we do the other 350m on the way out.

24 km560 mDiffAylmer LookoutBanffFrom the west end of Lake Minnewanka the trail follows the shoreline, crossing the spectacular Stewart Canyon, then traversing a scree slope above the lake. After 8km we climb 500m to Aylmer Lookout. Terrific views throughout. Long, strenuous day.
4
18 km892 mDiffBlack Rock MountainGhost RiverA big climb with some exposure, up a chimney to an open plateau and an abandoned fire lookout. Great views of Devils Head and Mt. Aylmer. Because of rough access road some vehicles with good clearance will be needed.
5
24 km1530 mDiffBourgeau MountainBanffHiking to Bourgeau Lake is a mere appetizer to the main course of Harvey Pass. This year the plan is to go to the top of Bourgeau Mountain. The view is comparable to that seen from the top of Mount Temple, but without the scrambling.
6
11.5 km720 mModBull Creek Hills - Easy ScrambleKananaskis - East HighwoodBest done as a point-to-point with car shuttle. Start at Sentinel Recreation Area, hike to Grass Pass 3.2km, then roam over the Bull Creek Hills for 7km. End at Hwy 541, 3.2km east of Sentinel. Some bushwhacking, route finding, with easy up and down scrambles. NOTE: If you do this hike from east to west the total elevation is 1000m --I would recommend this route as less elevation loss.
7
15 km870 mDiffBuller Pass - Guinn-s PassKananaskis - Smith-DorrienCar shuttle required. Climb 670m over 6.5km on Buller Pass which is awash in colour at this time of year. Next descend towards Ribbon Lake and ascend Guinn-s Pass and finally descend to Hwy 40.

Great views of Emerald Lake and surrounding area from both the ascent and the Highline traverse.

25
16 km1050mDiffHelen Lake and Cirque PeakIcefield Parkway - N of Lk LouiseTrailhead to Helen Lake: 6 km, 422 m elevation gain
Helen Lake to Ridge: 1 km, 128 m elevation gain
Ridge to Cirque Peak: 1 km, 493 m elevation gain
Cirque Peak is one of the easiest high elevation peaks, at 2993 meters, that you can summit in Banff National Park. Some consider it a scramble because the trail past Helen Lake is off-trail and steep. It is non-technical and the steep slog scree route is obvious.
26
20 km750DiffHelen Lake to Mosquito CreekLake LouiseStart with a steady climb through the trees to the subalpine zone where the trail opens into meadows with superb views. Descend from Helen Lake into the valley. Just past Katherine Lake turn right and head south off-trail the route is obvious most of the way behind Dolomite Peak to meet the Mosquito Creek trail a few kilometers from the lodge. 29
12 km1000+ mDiffLake OHara Alpine CircuitLake OHara BCNot for the faint of heart. Some steep sections, narrow ledges and scree shopes. The most common way the Alpine Circuit is hiked in is a clockwise direction starting with a short section of Lake O’Hara Shoreline Trail to the Wiwaxy Gap gaining 495 meters in elevation over just 1.5 km with multiple switchbacks. Leaving Wiwaxy Gap towards the east, Huber Ledges descends about 260 meters over 1.7 km before reaching Lake Oesa. Departing Lake Oesa towards the Yukness Ledges, the 2.2 km Yukness Ledges trail is relatively flat. After rounding the north end of the shoulder of Yukness Mountain, the trail continues on along a narrow, rocky bench under the shadow of a cliff before finally reaching a talus slope and descending to the Opabin Plateau eventually reaching West Opabin trail where you need to watch for the trail marker indicating the start of All Souls’ Prospect. The rest of the Alpine Circuit’s total elevation gain accumulates over the 2 km stretch of All Souls’ Alpine Route connection West Opabin Trail to Schaffer Lake. All Souls’ becomes more difficult once you reach the wide scree slope at the base of Schaffer Ridge. You have a couple of options for returning to the Lodge depending on time.
